Westin St John

We stayed four nights in a two-bedroom villa in late Feb 2026, and despite some reservations about Marriott lately, I still really like this property. It's an expensive, dated place and the service isn't flawless, but the setting is beautiful, and St John has a special appeal. We enjoyed every minute. We'd last been here in 2019. This time, the main difference was being steered into a timeshare pitch presented as a "personal concierge." The person clearly worked on commission and seemed focused on just that. It felt tacky for a brand at this level. Once we got past it, the rest of the stay went wonderfully.

We spent the evenings at the man-made beach watching the sunset. The views are lovely, and it's a relaxing place to sit and take photos as the sun seems to sink into the sea. The resort is lush and green, with flowers, trees, grass, and coconut palms loaded with coconuts. The pools are inviting, and the villas are spacious, beautifully built, and well equipped. There's an on-site ferry dock, which makes coming through St Thomas more convenient. Most areas are walkable, though the terrain can be hilly, and complimentary golf carts run between sections. There are only three places to eat on the resort, but between them there's a range of food choices. The fitness center has separate cardio and strength areas. Staff were friendly and helpful, and taxis were always available for downtown or other island trips, with fares posted in several places, including inside the taxis. A great spot for a relaxing family vacation.

Our first visit to St John USVI, and we couldn't have picked a better base. The Westin is centrally located and well known, with attentive staff and the amenities you'd want. Exploring the island is easy from here, but staying in is easy too, with a nice beach and a great pool with table-side service.

The beaches off the resort are still beautiful, but this was the most expensive, worst trip. My family and I had planned this much-needed vacation at the westin villas, and the system was down for two days after check-in. We had to pay cash for everything, and prices were outrageous, $11 for a bag of chips. Service was poor. Yachts blocked the beach view, and sandflies ate us alive despite using lots of repellent. Taxi fares were higher than posted. The shuttle drivers were very nice, but slow, and with two people in our group using canes and our villa at the top of a hill, we spent most of the vacation waiting. I told the front desk I'd leave a review, and they said Marriott doesn't have a say in how things are done in St John. There was very little Caribbean music, and the islanders didn't seem friendly anymore. I wouldn't walk around at night. You've been warned.
