Island Beach Comber

I spent five days and four nights here and had a great time. It’s such a peaceful spot for unwinding and being alone with your thoughts. The staff were amazing, and breakfast was great. You step out of your room and the sand is about ten steps away, with a breathtaking view right there. A laid-back place to relax in paradise.

We had a wonderful visit as a family and I’d consider staying again. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rates reasonable, and it’s within walking distance of the airport. Every room faces the beach, so even with our door shut we could hear the ocean from bed, and the patio view was lovely. Inside, our room was clean and nice, though clearly old. We had a flat-screen TV with limited cable, a mini fridge, and a coffee maker. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were flat. There’s a bar and restaurant on site, though we had a car and went out to eat. The beach was clean, but there weren’t many chairs. The rooms may be dated, but you don’t spend all your vacation in them anyway.

We came through the gardens on our way to the beach bar and noticed the buildings could use quite a bit of updating. I ordered a drink, and my friend’s Bushwacker came out as flavorless frozen slush, so I brought it back and asked for a different one. We’d just been to two doctor appointments, and my friend’s health was visibly poor enough that we had to rearrange chairs to accommodate her. I waited at the bar to take the replacement over, but the bartender said she’d bring it herself, then kept flirting with a man and serving other customers instead. Eventually my friend and I decided to leave. I paid and told her not to make the new drink. I reported what happened to the office as we left. The previous bartender, who was cashing out, kindly apologized without blaming anyone and said it was a shift change. I don’t think that explains it. The service was poor, and I suspected the bartender may have been under the influence. We won’t be back.

I wouldn’t stay here again, and I’d tell others to avoid it. The hotel was old, outdated, and filthy, nothing like I expected from the photos. The beds were nasty, the cleaning staff had unpleasant attitudes, and I saw roaches in the front office when I checked in. They told me rooms were cleaned every three days and fresh towels weren’t readily given each day. There were stains on the walls, and the rooms felt disgusting. When I asked for a cleaning and fresh towels, Michael got angry and came to find me on the beach to argue. In front of my child, he said I wasn’t welcome and had champagne taste on a beer budget. That was insulting, especially since I have a good job and salary, and Expedia had booked the trip for me. Afterward, people on the island came up to tell me he was a drunk and often treated visitors that way. I wish I’d known before booking. I’m now in a much nicer hotel for the same rate and feel much better. Expedia refunded my money. I’ll never stay there again. Contact me if you need more details.
