Coconut Hamlet Homestay

We lasted half an hour, got a refund, and left. All the drains were blocked and the towels were grubby. The supposed beautiful lake view wasn’t there, and the area smelled disgusting, with stagnant water or mud and rubbish. We couldn’t stay on the balcony for even a minute before needing to go inside for fresh air. It felt like being stuck in the room.

The room and the whole place were clean and spacious, with plenty of cozy areas to relax. We also liked the delicious breakfast and free bicycles. Still, we left with mixed feelings after four nights at coconut hamlet. We arrived Wednesday night and initially liked the place, but at 7am the next morning noisy construction started right in front of our room. It continued throughout our stay, including Saturday and Sunday. The owner hadn’t told us about it beforehand and wasn’t there in person because of business in another town. The rooms also aren’t mosquito-proof, so bring protection if mosquitoes bother you. If you’re thinking of booking, we strongly recommend asking about the construction site first.

I was looking for somewhere to unwind, and this place was just right. It’s just outside the city, but bikes are free to rent and the beach is only a 15-minute ride away. They also helped me get my bus ticket out of Hoi an, which was nice. If I come back, this is where I’ll stay.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke English really well. I loved the peaceful feel, the very comfortable bed, and the large balcony with a stunning view over the water coconut ponds. There are lots of paddy fields and lovely places to see nearby. Highly recommend for a relaxing holiday in Hoian!
