Danang Backpacker Hostel and Spa

I had a good stay and met some really interesting people. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, and the rooftop view of the mountains was lovely. The pool isn’t really usable as a pool, and drinks and other things on the roof cost too much. Still, I liked everything else.

The dorms, bathrooms, and hallways all had mold, and the place looked nothing like the Hostelworld photos. Service from the staff was only okay. When we tried to leave early because of the mold, the manager refused to refund us. The beds were big, but there was no light beside them, and we couldn’t lock either the room door or the dryers in the cubbies under and beside the beds.

The food was good, and the staff were generally nice. Still, there’s no kitchen or fridge for guests, and the mold is a serious concern. My room had visible mold, including black mold. I moved to room 300 on the 2nd floor, which had some mold too, but at least it was green rather than black. The woman who helped change my room was kind to me, but after I left she complained about me to another guest, who told me because he understood how dangerous mold could be. If you absolutely need to book here, ask for a room without mold.

I chose this place because it was in a quiet residential area. I checked in around midday, paid for one night, then went to work until late. I’d just moved hostels and told the staff I’d extend if I could get a decent night’s sleep, since that had been my problem at other places. It makes sense to pay for one night first and extend only if you like the hostel. But the next morning, a staff member woke me and said my bed had already been reserved for someone else, so I had to check out. How can they book a bed that’s already occupied?
