I stayed in both a private room and the dorm, and the private rooms were really good. This place had only opened two months earlier, and it’s Japanese style. Everything was very clean, and the staff were extremely helpful and clearly wanted guests to enjoy their stay. The dorm beds have curtains, a small light, and a spot for your things. There’s a locker under each bed that might fit a backpack up to about 50L. They also provide a toothbrush and a small bottle of water. Breakfast is included, with three options to choose from. Tomodachi is right in the heart of the city, but a fair way from the beach. You can rent a scooter there for about 150k per 24 hours if you want to go. The Dragon Bridge is around a 15-minute walk away. For the price and quality, this might be the best place in town. Edit: I visited in May 2017 and added photos of the private room. Things may have changed since then.

I left feeling very disappointed, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend the private room. I paid $27 for it. At another hotel in Danang, for about half that price, I got twice the room space and beds, with two double beds, a cleaner hotel, friendlier and more helpful staff, a big buffet of Vietnamese food, and a rooftop breakfast view over Danang city. That place was nearer the beach but farther from the airport. Some staff were friendly, the beds were comfortable, and the city-centre location was good. There’s also a good restaurant next door. But some staff made me feel unwelcome, like money came before guests. They seemed to skimp on what they provided. There was no tissue box or bin in the room, only in the toilet. When staff reminded me to check out five minutes before noon, the checkout time, it felt as if they wanted me gone and wouldn’t allow even a second extra. I found that strictness unfriendly. Breakfast also felt limited for what I paid. I was told I couldn’t have both yoghurt and fresh milk. I don’t drink black coffee or take sugar, but couldn’t get fresh milk for my coffee. The only option was sweet condensed milk, take it or leave it. The hotel was quite new, about six months old, I believe, but cleanliness wasn’t very good. The bathroom mirror hadn’t been wiped. The combs weren’t individually wrapped in plastic, so I wondered if they were reused. The rail on the common room door was very dusty and dirty, which wasn’t appetizing when sitting on the floor beside it for breakfast. I’m talking about the private room, not the bunkers. This was the second hotel I’d stayed at in Danang, and I’d hoped for a comfortable stay with some Japanese style. Some staff didn’t understand English well, which made communication difficult. One person also gave me incorrect information about the airport taxi, so I’d double-check what you’re told.

The hostel was cute, with a Japanese theme, and the room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. There wasn’t much space to hang out, but I don’t spend much time hanging around at hostels anyway. It suited my needs just fine. ^^ My online booking hadn’t reached their system, through no fault of theirs, and since I had no wifi I didn’t find out until I arrived. They tried to find the option that worked best for me, either a room at a nearby hostel or another room there. I’d booked a private room, but ended up alone in a dorm room and was charged the lower dorm rate, which was fine with me.

The staff were really friendly and helped us with sightseeing in sapa and halong bay. We went around Vietnam with friends and stayed here a few nights, and it was comfortable enough for a short visit. The topmost room is so cool! Breakfast was reasonable, and I have no complaints. There’s good food on the surrounding streets.

All the staff worked really hard and did their best to help guests. Mr Bin especially made everyone feel welcome. The location is perfect for getting around the city, with plenty of good food nearby. The bed was comfortable and breakfast was good too. Highly recommended.
