Fuse Beachside Hoi An

The rooms are very clean, the shared pool is nice, and you’re close to a beautiful beach. But my female dorm room didn’t feel private. Male and female staff kept coming in without explaining why. One afternoon they came in five times in an hour, and reception seemed just as confused as I was when I asked about it. The visits continued all four nights I stayed. The place seems best suited to young, first-time backpackers who want a party atmosphere. As a more experienced traveler who wasn’t looking for gap-year vibes, I’d have preferred somewhere else. Staff were lovely when I asked for advice, but seemed trained to sell the hostel’s own offers instead of giving objective tourist information. Tours and food at the hostel and its beach club were the most expensive I came across in five weeks in Vietnam. One other thing: the six free daily shuttles to Hoi An are three trips from the beach to Old town, and three return trips. The last one leaves around 2pm, so it won’t get you there for sunset or the lanterns. I had to pay for Grabs every day.

There’s plenty of space, though it wasn’t the cleanest hostel. It’s a long way from town, but there’s a free shuttle. The beachside area gets very quiet outside tourist season.

The rooms have comfortable beds, privacy curtains, plenty of space, and a clean, well thought-out design. Outside, the common areas are a nice place to relax and meet other travelers. Fuse Beachside also has a more natural, welcoming layout than the other Fuse locations I’ve stayed at, including Nha Trang and Hoi An. For me, it’s the best of them and one of the best hostels I’ve been to. Chrissy deserves a special mention. His energy is wonderful, and when I was feeling a bit down, we had a really good conversation. He made an extra effort to help me feel comfortable and supported during my stay. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for a sign to book, this is it!

It’s a very social place with lots of young travelers, but it doesn’t get too noisy. There are regular events and lub crawls, plus some fun tours around the area. The staff are really nice, especially Axel and Trinh, and quite a few speak English as their first language, which made communication easier. There are two hostels in Hoi An, with a free shuttle between them. The Old Town one is usually busier if that’s your preference, and both have clean pools, rooms, and bathrooms. A great place to stay.
