Gem Riverside Hotel Hoi An

Ruby and her crew were fantastic, kind, and accommodating. They can arrange taxis and travel plans and help you get out to see the incredible sights, so it feels almost like a hotel combined with a travel agency. Highly recommended, and thank you, Ruby! The hotel is near Old Hoi An, across a bridge from that area. We managed to take a small stroller across, though the walk isn’t especially kid-friendly. There are plenty of cheap taxis around.

We used the free bikes every day, which made getting around the city much easier. The rooms were immaculate, and the staff were genuinely helpful and kind. This was the best hotel we stayed at in Vietnam. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in Hoi An.

We booked Gem River for eight nights, from 21st Jan 2026 to 28th Jan 2026. The confirmation email offered a package with hotel pickup and drop-off, a massage, and 2kg laundry. The hotel did send transport to collect us from Da Nang International airport. But at check-in, the receptionist didn’t tell us about the included massage, laundry, or airport drop-off. I arranged our own transport to the airport, and at checkout the receptionist said nothing about the drop-off either. The free 2kg of laundry wasn’t deducted from the laundry we sent to be washed. I was disappointed that Gem hotel didn’t honor the package. I can provide the receipts and email as evidence if needed. We were assigned room 402, where the hot shower didn’t work properly. Even after repairs, it only gave us about five minutes of hot water before turning cold. Nothing more was done by management, and we dealt with this for all eight days. The buffet breakfast was poor and tasteless, with very limited choices: noodles, bread, cheap jam and butter. There’s no kitchen in the hotel for buffet breakfast or room service. The hotel is about 2km from Hoi An city. The river view wasn’t complete; it’s a small river in front of the hotel, with a road and daytime traffic. There were only five staff managing the whole hotel. At night, corridor lights worked only on sensors, which felt dangerous on the stairs. The receptionist gives lip service. I’d rate the hotel three stars. It felt like staff were saving costs for the owner. Anyone booking Gem River hotel should keep these experiences in mind.

It’s a little out of the way, but that also makes it very quiet, and I’d highly recommend it for the price. The staff were fantastic and worked hard to make the stay easy. The rooms and grounds were clean and welcoming, and the service was amazing.
