A local pointed me toward Green House Homestay after the hotel I’d booked through EDreams was closed. That booking mess was awful, and I won’t use them again, but I was lucky to find this place. The reception was so welcoming: they sat me down, offered a drink and some nuts, and I was able to sort things out over WhatsApp with their daughter without needing my very limited Vietnamese. The room was a very competitive price, with a small balcony, a decent-sized bedroom, a big bed, and great air conditioning. There’s a local market down the road and plenty of cafes and places to eat within a five-minute bike ride. It’s about nine minutes by bike to the old town, so it works well for a short stay. The bathroom has a toilet and a shower you have to hold. Bring your own shampoo and shower gel, and some mosquito spray, too, you’ll run into them.

The family’s assistant gave us great advice, and you can also arrange tours or buses through the hotel. It’s definitely affordable, and the free bicycles are handy for riding either to Hoi An ancient town or the beach. Our room was clean and had a fridge, which was great. Breakfast is included and really good. I can highly recommend staying here.

The family invited me to join them for lunch and dinner during Lunar New Year, which was lovely. The rooms are big and spacious, and the homestay was fairly new, built in 2015. Breakfast was cheap, the hosts were great, and I’d stay again if I visit Hoi An.

It’s about 2.5 kilometers from the old city, and they lend out bicycles for free. A really nice place, run by a lovely, friendly family.
