The extra 50k was a nasty surprise. Someone else handled my booking and payment, and confirmed checkout before 9 a.m. for 150k paid upfront. When I returned after going out, a different person asked me for another 50k. I’d read that the room was old, but it was much worse than I expected: dirty, moldy and rusty in many places. There were also lots of insect cocoons on the wall, something like worms or similar, and they looked pretty gross.

Staying in a homestay makes me feel like I’m really living somewhere new. Hotels can feel cold by comparison.

I’ve been able to chat with local people and make friends through homestays. They give you a close connection to the community.

How much is the guesthouse for a two-hour stay?

The owner was friendly, and the room was simple and cheap. Cleanliness could be better.
