QT Guest House

We stayed in a 10-person dorm on the first night of our Ha Giang Loop tour. The bathroom was dirty, and the woman checking us in was a bit unfriendly. It was okay for getting five hours of sleep.

There were beds on the floor, black mold on the walls and just one bathroom for 15 guests at a time. Disgusting hostel. I wouldn’t be surprised if the beds had bedbugs.

Tom at QT guesthouse was so lovely and helpful. That alone would make me recommend it 10/10. Renting a bike to do the loop with QT was easy. They let us try the Honda XR 150 first to make sure we were comfortable with how it handled, and offered an adapter to hold our phone. They also gave us ponchos and waterproofing to attach our bag to the bike. On the last day, we got a flat tyre halfway through the ride. The guys had said help was available 24/7, and it really was: they picked up quickly, reassured us, arranged a repair, and refunded us when we got back to the office. I was glad QT checked our international driver's licences so we could drive ourselves and do the loop without a tour.

This guest house is a very basic hostel, and the rooms and beds were poor. Our room had no windows, no amenities, and broken AC. The bathroom was very simple, and breakfast was poor too: cold pancakes with just three tiny banana slices on top, so I had to drown them in honey for flavour and calories. The pho was just instant noodles. Everyone seemed to want the shared showers at the same time, so they were always full. There is technically somewhere to store bags, but it’s just a hallway floor covered in backpacks. You’ll most likely end up here if you book a motor tour.
