Hyatt Place Ha Long Bay, Bai Chay

I’d recommend this hotel for a short business or holiday visit, or for WOH members wanting status nights at a low cash rate. If you’re expecting a Hyatt Place in the US, you may be pleasantly surprised. A lot of guests seem to arrive with tour groups, though, so it can get noisy and crowded. I wouldn’t choose it for a long stay if sleep matters and you don’t need the Hyatt elite qualifying nights. The staff at reception, in the restaurant, and in housekeeping were all a positive part of my stay. Most seemed to be doing their best, and their pleasant manner made me feel looked after. The gym also has new, adequate equipment for a hotel in this category: free weights, cable and weight machines, treadmills, an exercise bike, and a rowing machine. My room was modern and fairly spacious for one or two people, but the soundproofing was poor. I was often woken late at night or early in the morning by loud guests in the hallway or elevator lobby, or noise from rooms beside or above mine. There was also often a bad smell from the bathroom drains. Breakfast on the second floor was above average for this hotel category, both in quality and selection. Some hygiene practices there fell short of what I’d expect from a Hyatt. I didn’t see much leadership or guidance in the restaurant during my month-long stay, so I think its leader should take responsibility for that. Downstairs, the light meals and snacks cost about three times local prices and weren’t tasty. I’d eat nearby or order delivery instead.

I spent two nights here in January and really enjoyed it. The newer hotel feels fresh and clean, and the bathrooms are sleek and felt much cleaner than those in older hotels nearby. The modern room has useful little touches too, like USB ports right next to the bed. A good contemporary place to stay in Ha Long.

The way the team helped with my online packages really stood out. The front desk staff paid close attention and went out of their way to receive them for me. We also appreciated the room upgrade and welcome gift, and the restaurant team was fantastic. Birthday treats left in our room were a lovely surprise, and the send-off at the end warmed our hearts. Our extended holiday-season stay at Hyatt Place Ha Long Bay was incredible from check-in to departure. The whole management team and staff gave us service beyond what I expected. It felt comparable to a category 7-8 hotel, and was one of the highlights of our SE Asia tour. Thank you all for making it so memorable.

We only stayed one night as a stopover before our boat trip, but I’d tell people to stay longer. The view is stunning, and there’s a nice pool on the third floor. The restaurant had limited dinner choices, but the food was delicious and they could make small adjustments to suit your wishes. Breakfast was delicious too, with enough options. It’s a super modern, luxurious, clean hotel, and the staff were really nice and helpful. The best Hyatt Place I’ve visited.
