Minh Phong Hotel Ha Long

It was okay.

For somewhere near Hon Gai beach, this is a very good option. The hotel is small and fairly new, with the necessary amenities, and the price is affordable.

I left feeling the room details and charges hadn’t been explained honestly. I asked for a triple room, and the receptionist said the bed was 2.4m wide. I checked that it really was that large, and she said yes without telling me it was a shared bed. Based on that, I agreed. When we got to the room, it turned out to be two single beds pushed together, with an uncomfortable gap between them. It seemed like a twin room for two, and there were only two pillows. About two minutes after checking in, I went back downstairs to ask for a triple room. She said they only had one type, so I asked to check out. It was midday and hot, and I had a baby with me. The owner wanted 300,000 VND. The receptionist stepped in, and the amount came down to 100,000 VND. We’d been in the room for less than five minutes, hadn’t used anything, and had only gone upstairs and back down. I find that way of doing business very unethical. Were the rooms empty, or why charge that much? The room sale was unclear from the start, and the advice was misleading.

We were told a 2.4m bed would work for our group of three, but the room actually had two 1.2m beds pushed together. The join made the middle uncomfortable and cramped. We looked at the room for only about 2-3 minutes before complaining, yet were charged 100k VND per minute. For groups of three or more, I’d suggest Hoang Phu Gia next door. The price is similar, the rooms are nicer, and they have one 1.6m bed plus one 1.2m bed. The picture below is of Hoang Phu Gia.
