Muong Thanh Luxury Ha Long Centre II (Former Muong Thanh Luxury Ha Long Residence)

A nearby night club played music until 2 AM, which made it hard to sleep. The pool was dirty and cold, with cigarette buts scattered around an area that wasn’t maintained, so my young daughter and I never used it. I’d booked this place for her to swim, and the photos on the website didn’t match what we found. The hotel looked tired and grubby, nowhere near luxurious despite the name. The breakfast buffet ran out of food and wasn’t replenished. Reception seemed poorly trained in customer service. We were overcharged for a room we didn’t stay in and had no choice but to pay because the hotel had our passports. I’d avoid it and can’t recommend it. Thoroughly disappointing. AVOiD.

We had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for an elevator each time, despite there being four. They were dirty and stained, never seemed to be cleaned, and the handrails were broken and shook badly. Check-out was just as chaotic: we handed over our key card, but the staff member started helping ten other people who arrived after us instead of finishing our check-out. The reception team seemed to have no system at all. We paid a deposit and were told we needed a receipt to get it back. Nobody had mentioned this beforehand, and they already had a copy of the receipt, along with our IDs. It made no sense and felt like another attempt to take more money from guests. Our room request was for one double bed, but we got two singles. When we pointed it out, a staff member pushed them together. Under one of the beds was candy wrappers, plastic, used dental floss, toothpicks, and loads of dust. At checkout, staff made us move the beds back ourselves, even after we explained their employee had moved them and they’d given us the wrong room. They didn’t care, so we went back upstairs and did it. The bathroom floor scale didn’t work, nor did the induction stove in the kitchen. There were no bathrobes and no tableware at all, even though there was a mini-kitchen. The room information promised 24-hour room service, but I called room service and reception for HALF AN HOUR without anyone answering. The pool attendant kept watching my friend and me, following us around and staring only at us for no reason. It made us leave the pool. The gym was just one exercise machine, two treadmills, and one set of dumbbells for a hotel with over 30 floors. Dining room windows, supposedly panoramic, were always dirty. Staff also swept with an old-fashioned rural broom that barely picked anything up. The whole place was a dump, not the “luxury” hotel it claimed to be. Terrible hotel, staff, and service.

Everything here was good. I’ll come back again.

Loved the homemade pâté, yogurt, and pumpkin soup at the inhouse restaurant 💯. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are attentive. There are loads of amenities, including a pool, gym, kid zone, and morning buffet, plus some thoughtful details in the room. You’re a 10, but the pool isn’t heated, so we couldn’t enjoy it in the cold weather :D
