The excursion on the bamboo boat felt misleading. The program said we’d visit two caves, but we were taken through just one short, tunnel-like cave; apparently the other was closed. At the end of the trip, a staff member demanded that we pay for a small blood stain on a towel. That was uncomfortable and inappropriate. Small stains can happen for ordinary reasons, like menstruation or a small cut, and guests shouldn’t be treated this way. Our cabin smelled strongly of something like sewage and vomit, and the bed was so hard it felt like sleeping on a table. The food was average at best, well below what you’d expect from a cruise advertising a quality experience. Staff were unfriendly, and the atmosphere felt uncomfortable rather than welcoming. The company says the boat first launched in 2018 and was renovated in 2023, but from its condition it honestly looked 30-40 years old. It seemed very poorly maintained, with worn and neglected parts, and a strong fuel smell from the engine throughout the boat. Cleanliness, maintenance, service, and customer treatment all fell far below expectations. What should have been a relaxing cruise turned unpleasant. I’d strongly advise future travelers to look into other cruise options before booking.

My suite with a balcony on the lotus verdure cruise was exceptional when I stayed in Mar 2026. The service was pathetic, though, starting at the dingy, disorganized reception where there was no courtesy. The food was average, and the staff were utterly rude and disrespectful to guests. Checkout was 09:30 am, according to them, and they cut the electricity in my room at 09:31 am. When I gave honest feedback about the poor service, they argued with guests about why they’d rated them low, then smiled and made loose comments. It wasn’t worth the money, and I wouldn’t recommend booking this cruise. Management needs to wake up and improve the staff’s attitude.

The cabin was stylish, and its balcony had a lovely view. We had great food, including delicious Indian vegetarian dishes, and the cocktails were really good. Kayaking in the cave was amazing, and squid fishing was fun too.

We had a really nice time once we were aboard Verdire Lotus Cruise. The suite had been decorated beautifully for our anniversary, and the welcome was warm. The staff were kind and attentive throughout, especially Leo and Shela. Our small cruise had swimming, kayaking, and other onboard activities, and we slept well. Getting up early for sunrise, tai chi, and breakfast was lovely. The food was good, and the crew considered individual dietary needs. The bamboo boat ride to the cave didn’t excite us much since we’ve done similar trips before, though other people might enjoy it more. The rough parts were getting on and off. The shared shuttle from our Hanoi hotel took around three hours. The seats were comfortable enough for a nap, and the two bathroom stops helped, but some noisy passengers made the ride less pleasant. At the port, we waited outside in the heat for about an hour in a tiny, crowded terminal before taking a crowded, non-air-conditioned shuttle boat to the cruise. The same boat and another hot, packed terminal wait came after checkout, before our bus ride back. The service onboard was excellent, and the cruise was enjoyable. Still, if you’ve already been to places like Phuket islands, Ha Long Bay might not seem especially distinctive or impressive.
