Basic Guest House

It's very affordable, and the owner is really kind. I arrived late, and she helped me a lot, although you do have to check yourself in.

The staff and owner are really friendly, and the location in Hai Phòng is great, with lots of cute cafes and restaurants nearby. The hostel is quiet, roomy, and extremely clean. A perfect place to stay.

I liked my one-night stay overall. The host loves travelling and has thought about the little details, especially for women: there's a counter, wall mirror, and outlet in the hallway common area for doing makeup or drying your hair, plus a small foldaway desk and mirror in each pod. The place is decorated with hearts, and the neighborhood is charming, with everything nearby. It's a little out of the way, but the lower price made that okay. My main issue was the heat at night. The pods don't have ventilation, and the thick curtains made the bottom one I stayed in hot, so I slept with them open. I also found the host didn't know much about getting around and sent me to the wrong bus station. Hai Phong itself isn't much of a tourist city, so I'm not sure what others are complaining about.

The location isn't central and there's not much to do in Hai Phong, but I'd still come back and give this place 10/10. I stayed in a mixed dorm, and the woman working there, who I think might be the owner, was incredibly kind and always went out of her way when I asked for help. I've never seen an owner clean so carefully, especially in Vietnam. Even the shared bathroom was remarkably clean compared with hostels in Vietnam and some other countries, almost like a five-star bathroom.
