Golden Silk Boutique Hotel

A lovely place for a Hanoi holiday, and I was very happy with my stay. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are so enthusiastic. Thanks to Thao and Peter at reception, who helped me find attractions and were always smiling.

We loved having breakfast in the top-floor restaurant each morning. The lake view was breathtaking, and a musician even played for us one morning, which I’d never experienced at breakfast before. The hotel sits close to the lake and sights, and I went for a run around it each morning. I even joined one of the laughing yoga classes, which was so much fun. A lovely stay in the heart of Hanoi Old.

We left at 4.30 am for our flight, and the staff went to the trouble of packing breakfast for us. They were courteous throughout, and the location is great, right in the shopping area. The rooms and bathroom were super clean. A superb place to stay in Hanoi.

The lobby looks quite upscale, but the rooms don’t live up to that impression. We were sent here after a supposed booking error at the sister hotel Bonsella. We’d reserved a suire but ended up in an internal room for two nights. Room 306 was musty, windowless, and had damaged bedding. Their idea of “Luxury” left a lot to be desired. The desk staff weren’t as friendly as at other hotels, and breakfast was only just adequate by comparison. When paying, they argued with us about the difference between delux and luxury. The amount mattered less to me than the principle. Since this was a sister hotel to the one that made the booking error, the company didn’t seem to make much effort. To be fair, Julie (My Tam) at the Bonsella did everything she could in her role to help us. When we returned to the original hotel we’d booked, she did all she could to make the stay great. I wouldn’t risk staying at the Golden Silk unless booking one of the expensive rooms. Avoid the internal rooms, or better yet, go elsewhere.
