Hanoi Golden Charm Hotel

The two guys really made my holiday. Their advice and help made the stay so good, and the staff spoke good English and were very helpful with arranging trips and taxis. My room was clean, with fresh towels, and I couldn’t fault it. The location was class, the whole hotel was spotless, and it was excellent value for the money. I’ll definitely stay there again when I come back, and I have no hesitation recommending it.

I paid an extra 400k for a balcony and it was a waste of money. The view was just three air conditioner boxes, and there was a wooden chair you couldn’t sit in because there wasn’t room. The hotel didn’t even provide complimentary water. The shower was hard to adjust, either boiling hot or freezing cold, and it took me a few minutes to get the temperature right. The TV had no remote. I asked reception for one but never got it. The bathroom lock was terrible and could be opened even when locked, and the floor looked like someone had a sunburn.

The location is quite strategic, near the lake at the roundabout and close to the Old Quarter. The staff were okay, which was the only positive for me. The hotel doesn’t seem to match the photos. It’s run down, with old furniture and piping, and very, very dirty. You can check the photos other people posted. I won’t book here again, and I’d suggest checking the Google reviews before booking.

The location was the one good thing: there are plenty of food options nearby, and the street gets quiet after 9:30pm. The guest relations guy was also super nice. He looked like a gangster, but turned out to be sweet, and I made him laugh a few times. The room itself was small, scary, and felt unsafe. The lock system was extremely outdated. The bathroom smelled musty and was moldy, the faucet was broken, and someone had tied a rubber band around the shower head so it wouldn’t fall out when the water sprayed. The room and bathroom lights were dim because the hotel couldn’t be bothered to fix them. The mold smell was so bad I couldn’t sleep all night, and there was no blanket, just a quilt cover. I booked through Agoda and was really disappointed by the misleading information. The room photos were completely inaccurate, and I don’t know where Agoda got them. Luckily, I only stayed one night instead of two because my bus trip was a day earlier. It cost SGD28.62 for the night after a 5% discount coupon. Please look at the pictures for proof. I don’t know where the 4-5 star ratings came from. This felt like a real scam, and I won’t stay on Hang Quat street again. I wouldn’t recommend booking here at all.
