Lakeside Palace Hotel

I walked everywhere from this hotel during my seven-day stay. It’s in a perfect spot, right in the middle of Old Town Square, five minutes from the French Quarters, and across from Hoàn Kiếm Lake with the Red Bridge and the water Puppet Theater. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the customer service is superb. For this location and the rooms, the price is extremely reasonable. I’ll definitely stay here next time I visit Hanoi. Highly recommended 👌.

We’d booked at La Mandarina Travel & Spa, but it wasn’t available when we arrived. A friendly attendant moved us to Lakeside Palace Hotel, which I understood was their sister hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, even though it looked old. We had trouble adjusting the hot water when the heater was on, but managed to find a way. It’s very close to Haon Kiem lake, and the nearby tourist spots are easy to reach on foot. They also let us leave our luggage in the lobby after checkout. Highly recommend this hotel.

The location was A+, and the receptionist was very helpful. We booked the room while at the hotel on New Year’s Eve, and it worked well for us.

The first night was sleepless. The bed felt like a board, and I woke up with shoulder pain after tossing around. When I complained, they brought padding, but I saw that the bed was only a base with no mattress. On the second night, the air conditioner stopped cooling. I’d been out all day and came back after 11 p.m.; it was blowing fan air despite being set to 16 degrees Celsius. Someone checked in the morning and said an electrician would come. I had to demand a move to another room. Nobody offered one. In the new room, there was a mattress, but the air conditioning wasn’t on when I moved in. It has a switch at reception, so I waited 15 minutes, then went downstairs. The male receptionist had forgotten about me and the switch. I felt tortured during my two nights there. I’ve never written a review this bad, but if an organization oversaw hotel standards, this place shouldn’t get a license to operate. I’d booked a non-smoking room, yet all my clothes smelled of cigarettes after the stay. The shower, sink, and hairdryer badly needed replacement. I knew it was in an old quarter, but didn’t expect every facility to be old and broken. There was a poorly placed toilet, leaky shower screen, rusty sink tap, very old but working hairdryer, old cabinetry, and an old bed frame. I like old style, but I paid for a room in standard working condition.
