We stayed November 15-17 in a ground-floor room near the kitchen and laundry. For the price, everything does its job, but the unit has clearly depreciated and doesn't look as bright or polished as the owner's photos. The bed was okay but not soft. The toilet area was cramped, and the toilet seat cover was loose. The air conditioning also took a while to cool the room.
I had a horrible two-night stay. The place was dirty, poorly equipped, and still under unfinished construction. The second day, strangers were in my room because the owner said I had only paid for one night, though I had paid for two. The owner then wanted to know why I had left the door open for masons in the room. Completely maddening. The shower also felt like a nightmare: the non-waterproof switch is right by the shower and water. A shame. Avoid this place.
The center is about a 10-minute walk away. We had a spacious room on the third floor with a good toilet, though the bed was only low to medium quality. Getting in means walking through a small restaurant. If you expect to arrive late, contact the owner ahead of time for the self check-in instructions.
I had a terrible stay at Holo Bato, and couldn't find a listing for it on Maps to leave the review there. There was a rat in my room, and staff didn't seem to take it seriously. They told me to leave the door open so it could get out. I asked to move rooms and ended up carrying all my belongings through dark passageways by myself at 4 a.m. Earlier, when I arrived late at night, the passage was pitch black and nobody was there to show me my room, so I struggled to find it. The place looks nice at first, with a front sitting area overlooking a temple, but cleanliness is a problem. The taps leaked, the shower was broken, and the washroom was cramped. In the morning, staff thought I'd checked out and entered my room without permission. That was scary, especially since the door had been locked from the inside and they somehow still got in. I couldn't sleep. This was about as bad an experience as I could have had.
We had to pay in cash because we couldn't make a bank transfer from abroad. During our seven-day stay, the first three nights were in a ground-floor room near the laundry. It smelled musty, there was no hot water, and I felt itchy lying on the bed. We then moved to the third floor, which was better, though I still felt itchy in bed. The balcony was dirty, and the water heater had black stains inside. We arrived quite late on the first night and were confused because nobody was there to check us in. We only reached the owner on WhatsApp, and the staff we met that night didn't speak English.
