Masion Hometel 2

The air conditioning worked okay, and the woman running the place was kind. She got up to let us in at 2am, even though she was heavily pregnant, and also helped arrange an early breakfast. We appreciated that, but the atmosphere in the building and our room felt uncomfortable, so we moved elsewhere for our last night in the city. We booked two nights, then noticed that many of the glowing reviews on Google and Booking seemed fake. Reviewers on Google appeared to have posted the same review for four or five other hotels in Vietnam. The reviews on both sites were all similar in length and tone, with nothing negative to say. We spotted this before arriving but tried the place anyway, and were disappointed. Our room was on the second floor. The ground floor had a messy cafe, and the first floor a very lived-in kitchen. The room looked tatty, with lots of marks on the walls. The bedsheets smelled as if they'd been washed, but were crumpled and stained, so didn't look clean. The mattress didn't fit the frame properly, was soft, and I could feel the springs. We'd paid for a 'deluxe double room with balcony' advertised with a private bathroom, but the bathroom was shared. The balcony was barely large enough to stand on and looked over a construction site. We'd paid for breakfast too, but felt awkward and unwelcome downstairs. Two women were working there, and neither looked at us or spoke to us. While we were trying to figure out whether breakfast was included, one brought fried eggs and bread. Coffee came later, then 30 minutes after that the owner sent a WhatsApp message saying drinks weren't included. The fake-sounding praise about lovely staff, comfy beds, great views, and delicious breakfast made the real stay more disappointing.
