Sedona Suites Ho Chi Minh City

Breakfast was good, and it was handy to go downstairs for different food options. We were on the 34th floor and didn’t have any trouble with street noise, so we were away from the huge, booming and flashy Coke Tet festival that might have been really annoying at lower hotels nearby. The apartment was super clean and well looked after. I was surprised the building is 10 years old, since it felt much newer.

My family had just come back from vacation and planned two nights in Saigon. I booked through a third-party website because I wanted to try this hotel after staying at other hotels before. At check-in, the receptionist first said I’d booked just one night. I showed my confirmation for two, and we quickly figured out she’d been looking at another guest with the same first name but a different last name. The bellman was very helpful with our luggage, and we went up to the room. After lunch, we came back to a very strong urine smell in the room. We told the front desk before going out again and asked for someone to clean it. The receptionist handled it professionally and offered an immediate room change. Staff moved all our things, and when we returned later there was a handwritten apology card and a fruit plate from the supervisor. We appreciated how quickly and nicely they dealt with it, and it made a very good impression. We decided to extend our stay by one night. Things changed after that. When I opened the door to leave, the security swing bar, or door latch, suddenly fell off and broke. We hadn’t used that latch at all, so we hadn’t damaged it by locking it. It came off while I opened the door normally. I told a staff member that evening, and he said not to worry and that he’d report it. The next morning at checkout, my husband was handling things while I stepped away to get a drink. He called to say the hotel claimed we had broken the latch and wanted us to pay more than 800,000 VND. They said it might have happened because we opened the door forcefully while the latch was engaged. That wasn’t true. If we’d locked it and forced the door, I could understand, but we never used it. I told my husband to pay because I didn’t want an argument. If it really had been our fault, I would have taken responsibility. But maybe a previous guest had damaged it, or there was already a small crack before we checked in, and it happened to fall off during our stay. That would just be bad luck for us. The receptionist said staff check the room every morning, but how thoroughly can someone inspect a small door latch? A crack or loose screw might not show up during a quick daily check. And if the hotel thought something was damaged, they should have told us when I reported it, not waited until checkout to charge us. I’d been very happy with the hotel and staff at first, especially after the way they handled the room problem. But ending our stay this way left a negative impression. It’s unfortunate, because we planned to return, but now we won’t. Lesson learned!!!!!! Next time I check into a hotel, I’ll inspect every door latch, glass, chair, and corner so I don’t get charged for something that wasn’t my fault.

The team are the best! I was travelling for business on my birthday when they suddenly showed up with a nice cake and sang happy birthday to me in the breakfast hall. I was so surprised and felt blessed. It was remarkable! The location is perfect, with department store Takashimaya downstairs where you can find whatever you need. The only downside was that my room’s AC filter smelled bad, like mold.

The three-bedroom setup was amazing, the staff were really friendly, and breakfast was world class. I’d love to stay here again. I’m just worried the other places on the rest of my trip across Vietnam will pale in comparison.
