Sogo Hotel Saigon

The large room was good value for the price, close to the market and bus depot, so taking the bus was easy. A helpful male staff member was cheerful and gave recommendations. The female staff member seemed occupied with her phone; I asked for the room to be cleaned, but it wasn't done that day. I stayed for seven days over New Year's. Only small water bottles were free, and I hadn't realized a large one would cost extra. On some days the room wasn't cleaned and no extra water was left. Still, for what I paid, the stay was worthwhile.

We originally booked one night, unsure after reading some earlier reviews, but the stay turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Our windowless room was comfortable enough that we decided to stay a second night. The long-haired receptionist was especially kind and charismatic, and made a real difference to our visit.

I booked this hotel more than two months ahead, then they cancelled a month later, saying they were fully booked. I don't understand how that happened, and I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The photos of SoGo Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City looked promising, but the place felt neglected. Small things were broken or missing, including sink handles and battery covers on the AC remote. I reserved a king bed and instead got two smaller beds pushed together. The bathroom was filthy, with black mold on both the tiles and shower screen. The glass partition leaked badly, and the whole room flooded if I didn't pull the screen down. With a city view, the noise was unbearable, as alarms from the bus station went off day and night. After four days I asked housekeeping for fresh sheets. When I came back, there was still dust and hair on the floor, and the stained bedding was unchanged. I complained at the front desk; they called the cleaners, who insisted the room had been cleaned. The cleaner returned visibly annoyed, tossed the linen onto the bed as if I should change it myself, and only did it reluctantly after I refused. I rarely leave bad reviews, but this was awful. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
