For a longer stay in the city, The Galleria Residence in HCM seems like a comfortable base, with a modern look, generous space, and a layout that works for everyday living. For a holiday, though, I wouldn't choose it first unless I had my own transport, ideally a scooter. Without wheels, getting around takes more effort than staying in the tourist districts.

At Tower C, a foreign friend's girlfriend wasn't allowed in when she came to visit him. Even after a night guard who didn't speak English was shown a photo of his actual girlfriend, he still refused her entry. The visitor can get in by paying 500,000 D per day. He also takes money from several foreigners he doesn't know. Guards in the other towers are the same.

Having a kitchen and dining area, plus more room than a usual hotel, made this a comfortable District 2 base. The pool was handy in the afternoon, and restaurants and city attractions were easy to reach. The decor seemed a bit dated, though, and the service wasn't polished every time. Good value if you're after comfort rather than luxury.

Being in District 1 makes this place really convenient, close to everything, with cafes and convenience stores an easy walk away. The pool deserves a mention too, it wraps around the whole building.
