Grand Hotel

The room itself was clean and nice, but breakfast meant one set meal with no choice. The hotel was under reconstruction, so its online description didn't seem to match what I found and wasn't why I'd choose it. At checkout there was confusion about payment: I asked to pay and was told I'd already paid when booking, then got a message days later saying the room wasn't paid. I think it could be nice in the future, including the breakfast.

We slept well in this quiet hotel. The suite beds were huge and comfortable, though my wife found the mattress a little firm. The rooms were spacious and clean, with modern, roomy suite bathrooms, working air con that didn't blow on the bed, and good internet. It's one of the largest and most modern hotels in Hoa Bing, and I'd stay again for the rooms, but I'd eat elsewhere and check the bill carefully. The service let it down. The restaurant felt deserted, every drink on display at the bar was empty, and our fresh juice came from somewhere off premises. The food was okay, though I preferred Pho Bo 18 across the street, which was half the price and tastier. There was only one roll of toilet paper. At checkout, the minibar bill included more beers and soft drinks than were in the fridge or on the inventory I had photographed. They didn't overcharge the price, but sorting it out took too long.

The receptionist was very kind, and the place looked beautiful and clean. Still, my room smelled bad, like cigarettes, and the air conditioner didn't work, so it was extremely hot. Breakfast was very basic, and there was hardly any toilet paper.

The room was quite fine and Wi-Fi was okay, with a reasonable room price. Breakfast was Vietnamese only, but the Pho Ga was pretty good. It's an okay hotel.
