Quang Tung Cat Ba Hotel

The view was the main thing we were looking forward to, but the pictures hadn’t been updated. Instead, there was construction all around, going on day and night. I’ve added photos showing what was advertised and what we actually saw. I definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here. At arrival, the man at reception, who seemed to own the hotel, was rude and insisted we had no booking. We showed the paid confirmation several times before he finally accepted it, still annoyed that we’d gotten the rooms so cheaply. After about 20 minutes he gave us a pass. Then we found we’d been put in a standard room instead of the deluxe balcony sea-view room we’d paid for. He said he’d given our rooms to other tourists and that we could move to the right room the next day. We had to make do with the room we were given. It was dirty and had no hot water. The deluxe room the next day was also dirty and had no hot water. Breakfast was one pan of fried rice and some fruit.

We stayed with family in summer 2025 after finding it available at the last minute. The rooms were cool and very clean, the beds comfortable, and there were no insects. It’s on the main road, with parking down an alley, and close to beaches and several restaurants. Checkout at noon was generous, so we could go to the beach in the morning and return for a shower. Breakfast ran from 6 to 8:30 and had a range of dishes. I had buồn gà with Vietnamese coffee. The fried food was a bit dry and greasy, though we came down fairly late. There were some issues: our bathroom door was broken and wouldn’t lock, the toilet leaked at the base, and the mini fridge didn’t get cold. We were in room 711. Construction nearby will soon block the view, though that isn’t the hotel’s fault.

The first room had a shower we couldn’t use, and in the replacement room the mixer only gave full cold or full hot water. Breakfast was barely basic. The manager initially claimed there was no booking, and even after that was sorted, the stay fell short of what the booking site and Google show. Travelers should be aware.

Our balcony room faced the ocean, and the location was great, right by the lively part of Cat Ba. The rooms were spacious and clean, and breakfast was decent. We stayed on December 30 and 31 and seemed to be the only guests, even though Cat Ba had lots of tourists. There’s major construction right in front, which was disappointing, though it’s outside the hotel’s control.
