Cherish Hotel

The staff really made our stay memorable. Reception and restaurant staff greeted everyone with a smile, the man in the restaurant regularly offered more coffee, and the receptionist remembered we’d stayed three nights after we chatted while waiting for our taxi. The hotel is well maintained, even if it’s not the newest around. It’s a five-minute walk from the bars and restaurants, and our room had lovely decor, including a matching ceiling light and lamp, as other reviewers’ photos show.

The location is great, near plenty of food and Cham, my favorite local craft beer bar. I first stayed at Cherish for four nights three years ago, on my first trip back to Vietnam after 27 years, and came back this time for two nights. It’s an older hotel, but consistent, clean, comfortable, and good for the price. I had a balcony on both visits. The staff make things easy, from suggesting local laundry places to arranging a car. I liked the spa too. Breakfast is an okay buffet for Vietnamese tastes. I’d stick to fruit, tea, and coffee, and save room for local food outside if Vietnamese food isn’t your thing. You can enjoy the view as well.

The bathroom smelled awful, though I’m not sure if it was the shower curtain, the soap, or poor ventilation. We were a family of five and were disappointed that our rooms weren’t side by side or even adjacent. The beds were hard, like most beds in Vietnam, and the low-pressure shower wasn’t pleasant. The staff were nice and breakfast was okay. There’s free wifi, and you can refill a water bottle downstairs.

The buffet breakfast was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the rates were reasonable. After three nights here, I’d call it the best four-star hotel in Hue. I’d definitely book it again if I return.
