Eco Homestay - Hostel

We stopped for lunch when we arrived in Mai Chau. It’s close to the town center but set in a lovely, peaceful spot. The seating is outdoors but covered. Our hosts were friendly and served us quickly, and we enjoyed eating in such relaxing surroundings.

The shared dorms cost $5 per person per night, and curtains around each bed give you a bit more privacy. That price includes a lovely breakfast and free bicycle use. It’s a traditional homestay in a beautiful setting, and the staff were friendly and helpful. While we were there, they put on a dance show, which was a nice way to experience Vietnamese culture. I’d stay again.

I booked a room through agoda, got confirmation, and planned my trip around it. Then they sent me a rude message in Vietnamese with local bank details, demanding payment within 12 hours or they’d cancel. I asked where I should send the money, and they said they didn’t want me anymore and cancelled the booking. Now nearby hotels are full for those dates. Terrible customer service. The family were so kind. We sat with them around the fire, sharing snacks and talking, and everyone in the village was lovely. The surroundings are beautiful, and there’s a clean bathroom with free toiletries. It’s about 2 km from the center of Mai Chau, with free bikes that are perfect for getting around the villages. The only downside was the noise from lots of roosters at night, though that’s still better than traffic noise. I love this place and would definitely stay again if I come back to Vietnam.
