Minh Tho Homestay

The family who runs Minh Thơ Homestay were the best part of my stay. They were incredibly kind, attentive, and happy to help with bicycle rentals or tips on nearby walks, caves, and viewpoints. Meals were freshly cooked, flavorful, and served in generous portions, almost like eating with a local family. Breakfast was tasty too. The quiet village setting among rice fields and mountains felt calm and refreshing, with a garden to relax in after exploring. There’s free WiFi and bicycles for discovering the valley, and it’s a nice place to disconnect for a while. The rooms are simple but very clean, with private rooms or traditional stilt-house dorms to choose from. It feels authentic and comfortable enough if you like nature and local culture, though the facilities are basic, especially the shared bathrooms in the stilt-house. Some guests say the beds are firm, which may not suit you if you like a very soft mattress. You might hear roosters or other animals early in the morning. I found that charming, but light sleepers should know. It’s a little way from the town center, so a bicycle or scooter helps. For the price, I thought the value was excellent, and I’d happily stay again. It’s a lovely choice for warm hosts, home-cooked meals, and a peaceful natural setting in Mai Châu.

The fried fish was delicious, and the craziest-looking one I’ve ever seen, served standing up. There was a great variety of food, and you can't beat the view.

The location is perfect for reaching the surrounding villages by bike, on foot, or by motorbike. The family is amazing, the rooms are built to reflect the local way of life, and the food was a very high standard. Local bands performed in the evenings, adding to the authentic feel. There’s construction going on around the property right now, so we recommend checking that it’s finished before you arrive.

We stopped for a drink while cycling, and the lady’s service was beautifully kind. They were incredibly hospitable and gave us fresh mango and pineapple for free. I tried to leave a tip, but she refused. If they’re this welcoming to someone just stopping in for a 7up, I imagine it’s a lovely place to stay.
