Sailing club

We came for a week over New Year, and the gardens were a highlight. The walk to our room through them was incredible, and the room was immaculate, with outdoor seating that made a nice place to relax before the short walk to the beach. We were lucky to get an upgrade after randomly meeting the CEO’s son in Ho Chi Minh. He was genuinely nice. The restaurant and pool teams were fantastic. LOAN, CHIÉN, and CÔNG couldn’t do enough for us, and STEF, the operations manager, stopped by every day to chat and check that the holiday was going well. Reception could have been more attentive and welcoming when we came in, though. From the first impression, the place felt special. We’ll be back in Vietnam, and Sailing Club will be where we stay.

We only spent three nights here as a break in our Vietnam tour, but would happily stay again. We usually prefer eating out and avoiding hotel restaurants, yet the evening meal here was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff were so helpful, and the hotel has a lovely spot right by the beach. We’d recommend it.

Our holiday was spoiled by how inflexible the hotel was with its beach and restaurant rules. Friends of ours staying at a neighboring hotel wanted to spend time with us on the beach, but weren’t allowed into the hotel’s beach area. They couldn’t even have coffee at the restaurant, despite being ready to pay. We understand the hotel has its own policies, but applying them with no flexibility or basic respect felt unfriendly and unwelcoming. It was a very disappointing experience.

I’ve stayed at this resort for the third or fourth time over the last ten years. The grounds and rooms are still lovely, but the service and food have declined enough that I won’t return. The weekend buffet is a sad shadow of what it used to be, with poor baked goods, local cold cuts, and hot dishes that didn’t impress. On the à la carte menu, each guest can pick only one item. My companion and I found what we were served so unappealing that we left it uneaten. Somehow, Sailing Club’s food is worse than the equivalent street food.
