The Sailing Bay Beach Resort

We stayed at Sailing Bay Beach Resort for two nights. It was our third hotel in Mui Ne on this trip and easily the worst. Reception staff were extremely rude and showed no interest in guests. There were no welcome drinks either. Our first room had a broken shower, a sink that splashed water around, no safe, and very old furniture. After we complained strongly, they moved us and called a plumber. The new room was in the same poor state, though at least the water worked. The whole hotel is run-down and poorly maintained. There is a pool, but the bar listed in the description wasn't operating, so we couldn't buy even a drink or snack there. Since the resort is far from the center, that was a real problem. We went to the neighboring Muine Bay Resort just to feel like we were at a real hotel. Sailing Bay doesn't feel like a 4-star resort. It seemed abandoned. There are much better places nearby, so avoid it.

The outdoor grounds were well maintained, and the resort sits right by the beach, though there are no cafes or restaurants nearby. We got free water and welcome drinks on arrival, and the staff were helpful: they carried our luggage and arranged a bus transfer. Breakfast the next day was okay, with a good variety of dishes. The reception lady was helpful too. The room was another story. It felt like nobody had been in it for weeks, let alone cleaned or prepared it. The floor had a greasy film, the first bedsheets were filthy, and the replacements were only brought while we spent a few hours at the nice but windy beach. Later we found mold in several places: on both armchairs, around the bathroom, on the toothbrush cup coasters, on furniture, and on the curtains. The shelves smelled strange, probably moldy, and there was dust everywhere. One of the two towels had large dark spots too. The resort looked almost empty when we arrived, and I could see why. Thankfully, we'd booked only one night. With a makeover and a thorough clean, this could have been a much better stay.

The room was large, the TV was small, and the air conditioning on my floor worked okay. Friends staying at the same time said it wasn't working as well in their rooms. There's very little nearby for a few kilometers, and most of the surrounding area is empty. Some staff weren't especially friendly, though one staff member was consistently kind and did her job well. They could improve the resort a lot with professional hospitality training.

The rooms are old but okay, the pool is really big and clean, and breakfast had plenty of choices. But after the room was cleaned, some of my belongings went missing. I told reception, and they responded badly, saying nobody had touched anything. The missing item was important for my health, and I needed it urgently, but there was nowhere in Mui Ne where I could buy another. Staff apologized but didn't do anything to help. They took a deposit at check-in to protect the hotel's property, yet didn't seem to care about guests' belongings.
