Heritage By Night Hotel

The main advantage is the location: right on the Main Street, with restaurants and cafes a 3-5min walk away, a minimart next door, and Phong Nha tourism center about 5 minutes away for the boat ride to Phong Nha & Tien Son Cave. We stayed four nights and found it comfortable, with a steady hot shower. Staff were friendly, replied quickly to messages and could arrange car rental between Dong Hoi airport and Phong Nha. The room was okay overall, though not in tip-top shape, and they don’t clean it daily unless you ask. We arrived to find no toilet roll or water, but got both after requesting them. Convenient shops nearby were a big perk.

The pool was amazing, and some staff members were really friendly. When we found ants in one friend’s bed and told the staff, they cleaned it quickly, which was great. The dorm itself felt too basic for the price. The beds were hard, the rooms weren’t cleaned during our stay, and rain brought sandy footprints across the floor. It was very damp with no ventilation, and some beds had hairs and stains. Overall, the rooms felt unclean and overpriced.

The view from the window is absolutely stunning, and the wifi worked well. Breakfast was tasty, though limited, and served from 7am. The pool was very cold, so it might be better in summer. There are two pool tables with a variety of cues, and one receptionist is an amazing singer, sometimes playing guitar in the dining area. Mosquitoes in that area were the one small problem, though there may not be much that can be done. I’d recommend hiring a motorbike in town and riding the circuit to Paradise cave and back via the botanical gardens, the views are amazing and the roads are super quiet.

The pool and view were amazing, and the hotel has so much potential. But everything was still dirty, despite there being a lot of staff around. The hallways and rooms were dirty, the towels looked more brown than white, and the sheets were covered in stains. There was also a hornets nest outside our room. It was overpriced, and they need to improve a lot.
