We spent most of our time relaxing by the pool, and the resort’s garden, pool area, and laid-back feel were lovely. Our beachfront bungalow had loads of space, a huge bed, a clean room, and a great terrace with a hammock and seating, all facing an incredible view. The breakfast buffet was good, too, and I especially liked the omelette. The sea was a letdown. At low tide the water sat far from shore, leaving exposed seabed covered in trash instead of a beach. The menu food beyond breakfast wasn’t good. We rented a bike to look for somewhere else to eat, but the island’s east side seemed deserted, with no restaurants or much to see or do. There was trash everywhere.

The long pier is useful for getting past the shallow lagoon and its questionable debris to deeper, cleaner water. A sandbar about 200m from shore makes swimming from the beach difficult. The sea views from the restaurant are beautiful, though, and the 25m pool is big and usually quiet. The lodges are roomy, the beds comfortable, and the colourful plants give the grounds plenty of shade. It’s a tranquil place, with lovely hard-working staff. Local dogs are around and provide entertainment; they leave guests alone and peacefully coexist, though some people may not enjoy having them there. The furniture looks nice, but there wasn’t anywhere comfortable to lounge apart from around the pool, and I could have used more cushions. The breakfast bread, usually great in Vietnam, seemed stale each day. The whole resort feels tired and a bit directionless. It could use more energetic management and some investment.

We found the rates reasonable for the service, and the food at Dugong Phu Quoc was delicious. The resort was clean, well kept, and the staff were friendly, easy to approach, and ready to help. It was also quiet and never felt crowded, which made it a lovely private-feeling getaway for our family. A cozy, affordable place in Phu Quoc if you’re looking for a peaceful family stay.

Even though the resort was fully booked, we barely saw anyone and it felt as if we had the place to ourselves. It’s a good escape from the noise and busyness of the city. At low tide, you can walk along the pier and sandbar. The pool is bigger and deeper than it looks in the photos, and you can rent motorbikes or take a taxi for an easy trip into town.

A quiet, peaceful place to stay in Phu Quoc, with a nice pool and good food. There isn’t much else to do at the property. The young guys serving dinner gave exceptional service, and bikes are available to rent for trips into town.
