Breakfast has a mix of local and international choices, though the dining room gets crowded at busy times. The staff are warm and helpful, and can assist with recommendations or travel arrangements. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with modern facilities and a welcoming feel. It’s also well placed for Ha Long Bay and local shopping. Muong Thanh Hotel is a pleasant, dependable option for comfort and value in Ha Long.

I booked and paid through booking.com for two people, under my name. At check-in the hotel asked for a 1 million cash deposit, saying it was a bond for the room, so I agreed. When we left, they charged us again in cash even though I had proof of the booking and had confirmed it when we arrived. I consider this scamming people. They wouldn’t give me a receipt until I insisted. The copy they gave me had my name removed and the second guest listed under booking.com. I kept all the receipts and have an open case with booking.com. This isn’t booking.com’s fault, in my view. The hotel is scamming Australians and tourists. When I challenged them, their English seemed to disappear and they acted like they knew nothing. I can’t post the receipts because they show personal information. I’ve since asked for the original invoice and the hotel still isn’t responding. I’ve added a screenshot. Also, the people leaving five-star reviews seem to be locals without a history of reviewing other places, probably staff. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I stayed at the Muong Thanh in Da Nang without any problems, but after this I won’t recommend or use the company again. The cashier needs to be fired for theft. And to the hotel’s automatic reply: thanks for the copy-and-paste response. What have you done about this? Did you fire the staff who are stealing from and scamming customers? I still haven’t had a reply to my emails, and nobody has offered a refund despite the documents and receipts I have to show your staff were dishonest. Shame on you. It’s off season, but you still shouldn’t scam customers.

The location was really convenient, and my room was spotless and comfortable with a beautiful view that made mornings feel special. The staff made a real effort from the minute I arrived, especially Ms Nhi. I had an amazing stay and would happily come back. The one thing they should work on is the food, which tasted kind of salty to me. Still one of the best travel experiences I’ve had, and I’d recommend the hotel.

The noise was unbearable. Music from concerts around the beach played until 2am, and the room did nothing to block the thumping. When I complained, they handed me earplugs. Earplugs at a five-star hotel, seriously. We had plumbing trouble in both rooms. The sink leaked in the first, so maintenance had to fix it, and the shower wouldn’t drain. We moved rooms, but that shower drained VERY SLOW and overflowed into the toilet area. The design is the worst I’ve seen. The hallways smelled of smoke despite being non-smoking, and the lobby felt cold and unwelcoming. Staff didn’t acknowledge guests. Breakfast was below average for both quality and choice. The coffee was BAD, lukewarm and weak. Luxury? Not hardly. I can’t wait to leave. Two nites, never again.
