Chapi is quite a way from Sapa town, and getting around in this mountainous area can be tricky and a bit pricey. It’s best to arrange daily transport with Mio or Mai, who are happy to help. Even so, I have zero regrets about staying outside town. Just be sure you’re okay with their very adorable, friendly pets, two cats and a dog. We arrived around 9pm, exhausted from a full day of travel, and knew as soon as we walked into the main house that we’d picked the right place. It has a cozy, homely feel, with everyone gathering there for meals and time together. I believe there are four guest rooms in the main house. They’re cozy and thoughtfully set up, but none has a door. Curtains or cloth separate each room from the outside landing. There’s also a separate unit that comfortably fits two or three people. It has a fridge, an en-suite bathroom and toilet, a kitchen counter, and a small balcony where you can relax and take in the surroundings. The best part of Chapi is pocket sized Mio, our lovely, helpful, funny and super talented host. She cooks amazing food and is quite the entertainer. Chapi wouldn’t be the same without her warmth. Mai is very helpful too, though she wasn’t there during my stay because of the Tet celebrations. We booked without really knowing what we were getting into, only that the place was somewhere in the mountains, away from Sapa town. For anyone wanting a home away from home, I recommend staying in Chapi.

The host arranged a taxi for us at a very reasonable price, even though the house is about 14 km from the city center. Ms Mio and Ms Mai were so warm and welcoming, and the dinner showed off their amazing cooking. Inside, the wooden house felt especially cozy in the cold weather, with a long kitchen by the window and a fragrant coffee bar. And the adorable dog, Bông, made it feel even more like a fairytale. I’ll definitely come back next time I visit Sapa.

The shared kitchen and common room are so charmingly designed that I wanted to photograph every corner and hang the pictures at home. Outside, the view reaches across emerald mountains, drifting clouds, rice terraces and dreamy bamboo forests. The wooden house sits on a hillside among lush greenery, with fresh air and modern comforts that blend naturally into the surroundings. For international guests, you can trek in from Sapa along the mountain path, or take a taxi for the roughly 30-40 minute ride. It’s bumpy, but worth it if you want to unwind here for a few days. Nearby, you can explore villages, try indigo dyeing and learn about the rich culture of the ethnic communities. You’ll come away with lots of photos and memories. I first stayed at a homestay that felt like a hug: cozy, peaceful and scented with pinewood. After so many days of deadlines in the capital, Chapi felt like a gentle retreat into nature, and I honestly didn’t want to leave. If you want a healing getaway or a break from the city smog, I bet Chapi will make you say “wow” at least three times. It’s a lovely place for local travelers and visitors from abroad alike, and deserves a spot on a must-experience list. During the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2025, I came to Chapi with my crew and the two wonderful owners and co-founders, sister Mai and sister Mio, to put on a moonlit celebration for local children. Our team improvised as chefs, making seaweed rice rolls and brewing bubble tea, while also bringing donated blankets, warm clothes and school supplies for the kids. It was pure joy, like a village fair around a crackling fire on a crisp autumn evening.

The sunny day we left was lovely, which made it a shame we hadn’t had that weather earlier. We were there in November, when it was around 7 degrees Celsius, and it was cold enough that we wore jackets and hats indoors. Heating comes only from open fires, which didn’t do a very effective job, so I’d choose a warmer time of year to stay. I already wrote on Expedia about what we enjoyed at Chapi Dreamy Home, and I’d still highly recommend it.

A beautiful homestay in the Sapa mountains, run by a lovely family and hosts. Thanks for everything. Highly recommended.
