After hiking from Sapa with our guide Ngoc, we stayed in a clean, lovely bungalow looking out over the rice fields. We also enjoyed cooking with the Vietnamese family and sharing dinner with them. It was a pleasure.

Look for Fernando if you go, he speaks really good English. The accommodation is relaxed, great value, and run by genuinely lovely hosts.

The staff were friendly and mostly kept to themselves. We didn’t get one of the bungalows, which looked very nice, so I’d suggest booking one if you can. The homestay itself was okay. We got food poisoning from the family meal and were sick all night. Karaoke was also very loud and continued until 10:30 pm, so this may not suit you if you want somewhere relaxing.

The host was happy to bring me a heated blanket when I asked. The bungalow was clean and well kept, with an ensuite bathroom and a gorgeous view across the rice fields. Their ginger tea is fantastic, made with fresh ginger chunks and lemongrass, not cheap powder. Breakfast pho was delicious too, the best I’ve had in Ta Van.

Friendly service, a great location, and a great place to stay. I couldn’t fault it.
