Sapa Eco Hugo

We were three families with nine kids, and the homestay made getting around easy: they arranged five scooters, a taxi to our next stop, and a ride to the hospital in Sapa. They also set up a great batik and indigo workshop in Lao Cai, which we all loved. The kids had rabbits and kittens to enjoy, plus a nice outdoor space in front of the bungalows to play in. The family running the place were so friendly and went out of their way to help. The food was delicious, and it was really handy to eat at the homestay in the evenings instead of looking for a restaurant. There are several places 5-10 minutes down the road on foot, too. They handled all our gluten-free and lactose-free requests well. Our bungalow rooms had the softest beds we’ve found in Vietnam so far, and the shower was nice. Just remember to switch the heater on about 20 minutes beforehand. The valley views are lovely, with nature all around. A beautiful walking trail to Lao Cai passes by, about an hour at an easy pace. It’s a 25-minute drive from Sapa. We took scooters twice and had fun with the ride. After reaching the Ta Van river, it’s another four minutes up a winding road through town to the homestay, which was fine by car or scooter. Recommended!

We didn't stay overnight, but the location among the rice fields seems ideal for getting a feel for local life. We came for a cooking class with Dong after enjoying the food he made at the restaurant the day before. It wasn't listed as an offer, but he kindly agreed to lead the class.

Dong's cooking class was outstanding. He speaks English very well and knows a lot about Vietnam and food, with a really open mind. We made lemongrass chicken, spring rolls, and pho, using fresh, delicious ingredients. 10/10.

The rooms were clean and comfy, and the views were lovely. It’s far enough from Sapa to feel removed, but close enough to walk to Lao Chai and Ta Van villages.
