Sapa Highland Resort & Spa

The staff were lovely and helped us arrange extra tours, and the hilltop setting gave us great views of Sapa. It’s a bit of a walk into town, though manageable, but some Grab drivers had trouble finding the hotel. Our room was quite large, and the doors didn’t seal properly, so some noise came through. Luckily it’s further out, and the noise didn’t bother us too much. The beds were very hard, and we each had just one flat pillow, so we didn’t sleep well. We stayed for a few nights.

The spa was the main reason for my 2/5. Both the lobby and massage room were extremely cold, and the air conditioner in the massage room couldn’t warm it even during an hour-long treatment. Bright lights shone right in my face when I turned onto my back, which completely spoiled the relaxing feel. The two women serving us had runny noses and seemed sick, though they did wear masks. One older woman was quite rude, didn’t even say hello, and clearly didn’t want to serve us. On arrival, staff also came across as somewhat curt and rude. The room looked impressive at first, with spacious, attractive interiors and a bathroom divided into two areas with a huge shower. But it was very cold, and the small air conditioner struggled to heat such a large space. It shut off as soon as we took the keycard with us, so the room went straight back to freezing while we were out. Breakfast was below average, with very few choices and a very crowded dining area.

The staff were beefy friendly and behaved very well, and they can arrange everything, from local visits to transportation. It’s a perfect spot for a family planning to explore SAPA. Sapa Highland Resort has a nice view from its high position, and it’s about a 5-minute walk to the main square. But I was disappointed overall. The breakfast had very few options and was very poor, and the gym was just a few small machines, hardly a proper gym. My room was large and laid out well, but cleanliness fell short. Housekeeping changed the sheets and towels, while the glasses were left uncleaned and the room didn’t seem to get a proper cleaning. At check-in, I was told smoking wasn’t allowed inside the room, but nobody said anything about the balcony. There was only a sign inside. When I checked out, they said there were cigarette butts in a water bottle and asked me for 400,000 VND for “cleaning.” I refused and offered to clean it myself. They could have dealt with it much more politely and reasonably. The service and hospitality didn’t meet expectations despite the good location. I won’t return and don’t recommend this hotel.
