The White House Hotel Samoa

We left after just two nights and couldn't wait to go. The room was on the first floor, with a small table and chairs right outside. Guests from next door kept sitting there, talking loudly early in the morning. At 6am on our first day, we woke to dragged chairs and loud conversation, which was especially frustrating after a long flight and dealing with the time difference. The next morning, at 5:30am, they were out there again, talking and singing. I eventually opened the door and asked them to be quiet. They lowered their voices a little, but the noise continued. We told hotel staff, who said they'd speak to the guests, but nothing changed. It was disrespectful and avoidable. Putting seating right outside guest rooms makes no sense when there are plenty of other places to sit. We were travelling with children aged 2 and 8, which made the lack of consideration even more frustrating. A very poor stay, and not somewhere we'd ever return to.

What made the stay special was how kind the staff were, from the warm welcome at reception when we checked in on the 4th of April to the genuine smiles whenever we came back after a long day. They looked after our rooms well, and the comfortable beds and good air conditioning made it easy to relax in the heat. Breakfast each morning was a highlight. We got to try traditional Samoan dishes like Alaisa Fa’apopo, Koko Alaisa, and my favourite, Sua Fa’i. It felt homely and authentic. Rosy Burgers deserves a mention too. The in-house double cheeseburger was huge and delicious, one of our best meals. We walked about 10 minutes to Fugalei Market, picked up local food, and the staff kindly let us use their dining area to eat. That generosity meant a lot. With security on site at night, we also felt safe and comfortable. I can't remember staying anywhere where every staff member went so far to meet guests' needs. We arrived on an early flight, and the staff were so friendly. They offered to store our bags, gave us cold water and let us check in early. The rooms are clean and the hotel is in a great location. No need to look anywhere else, this is the best place to stay in APIA!!!

We only stayed one night at the White House before our flight out of Apia. The staff were lovely and quickly arranged an airport transfer, but we were checked into a room with no bath towels, no wifi password, and a broken TV we hadn't been told about. The air conditioning was severely faulty and terrifyingly loud, as if it might explode. Without it, we were left in extreme heat, and the fan only had one setting and was loud too. We didn't sleep. The walls and ceilings also seemed paper thin. We heard loud footsteps late at night, broken air conditioners in other rooms, and even someone in another room urinating. Not pleasant. I can't recommend staying here.
