The spa and massage were such a treat, with the ocean sounds and jungle setting making it feel unreal. The gym is also much better set up than a typical hotel one, and there are great vegetarian choices on the menu. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the whole place felt so relaxing. We’ve been to Samoa a few times, but this was our first stay here. I can’t see why it gets bad reviews. It has such a good vibe 🤙🏽

We eventually gave up and went to Taumeasina Island Resort, where everything felt so much better. The second room here had insect bodies everywhere, no phone, and no hot water. The first room was dirty, moldy in the bathroom, sticky underfoot, and the linens had odd yellow stains. Staff seemed irritated when we asked for clean ones, and said they couldn’t do anything about the sticky floors. There was no welcome drink, and the front desk wasn’t welcoming when we arrived. Nobody offered to help with our bags, either. The room phone showed the wrong number and didn’t seem useful. When I asked about it, staff said they couldn’t help because they weren’t IT specialists. After we asked to move rooms, that was the replacement we got. This was one of the worst five-star stays I’ve had. It didn’t feel like a Sheraton at all, more like a “Shameraton.” Don’t come here.

The breakfast was the one bright spot: lots of good options, and the breakfast staff were great. The rest was absolutely disgusting. The bathroom was dirty, and there were cockroaches all over the area behind the fridge. Tennis courts and the kids’ playground were overgrown, the spa was closed, and nothing else was open. For two nights, the bar didn’t even have lager. Lunch and dinner were stale or overcooked. When we arrived, they tried to charge us again, but luckily I had printed proof that we’d paid. Things were bad enough that we ended up booking a hire car. We’d never have booked if we’d known. This place needs to be shut down.

We expected a night out and a nice dinner, but got neither. The food was disgusting, and the walk to the casino felt like going into a messy, abandoned building. Even the pool had no water. I’m not sure this resort is finished yet 🤔

The balconies have a beautiful view over the beach, and the staff are lovely, trying hard to make the stay pleasant and being as helpful as they can. It’s handy for an airport night, with a shuttle service, and the place is clean. It’s basic and in poor repair, though. Definitely not five star, but it’s only advertised as three star. It’s still a Sheraton underneath, even though the government runs it now. My only real gripes were no coffee in the room and nowhere to get food or a drink after the restaurant closes.
