Halstead Farm

We were at the property on 26th Feb and, in the middle of the night, two armed thieves broke into our room and took all our belongings. We spent the rest of the night there without anyone coming to help. We had minor injuries, though the incident could have been worse. The staff were kind the next morning, but seemed badly under-supported in running a properly staffed guesthouse. I hope the security is fixed for both guests and staff. This place is not safe. We later learned from police that a similar incident had taken place at the same property a week earlier. Management had not told us, and security did not appear to have been increased, even though we were the only guests and the property had recently had a break-in. Security seemed very limited. We think we saw one guard when we got back to the farm after dinner, but nobody came during the night despite the noise we made during the break-in. The place felt isolated and unprepared to keep guests safe. On arrival, nobody came to the gate despite our honking and buzzing. We had to call the owner, who contacted someone on the property to greet us. That person seemed not to be expecting us, and we weren't given a full tour. At night the main house and grounds were dark, with only our bedroom light on, and we had no idea whether staff were nearby. There was no phone in our room or at the property. The morning after the incident, when we needed to call police and our embassies, staff had to use their personal cell phones to contact the police.
