Heila & Glen's Cottage

The second night, we returned from town to find the husband intoxicated. He came into our room and made me and my children very uncomfortable. There were three rooms sharing one bathroom and toilet, and we had little privacy. The room had no towels or coffee, the DSTV didn't work, and my kids had to use the kitchen kettle. We couldn't find a suitable place to plug in a phone, either. At first things seemed okay, but after that it was all downhill. You get a bed and little else, despite the price. I've never had such a bad overnight stay and would never recommend it or come back.

The kitchen was cluttered, the bedding hadn't been changed after the previous guests, and hot water ran out. After we braaied, we put the leftovers in the fridge, but Glen helped himself to them the next day. Glen also made a racial comment to one of our workers. The place is cheap, but it's really bad. There's nothing good I can say about it. Rather spend the extra R100 somewhere safe, and the health department should inspect this place. Please read the reviews before booking.

We paid R950.00 for three people for two nights, which seemed reasonable, but the quality was absolutely absurd for that price. There was little to no privacy, and the photos give the impression you'll have more. When we got back from the city, the owner's husband, Glen, was drunk. He burst into our closed room, slurring so much we couldn't understand him, and made a lot of racist comments. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone.

We found this a great, relaxed place, better than most places we've stayed around the country. The people were nice and the service was good, with shops an easy walk away. The private cottage was great, and the two rooms in the house were comfortable for our group of seven. We did have to pay R50 to use the kitchen stove. They explained that electricity rates had almost doubled. The fridge, freezer, kettle, microwave, plates and utensils were free to use.
