We wanted to book and pay for breakfast, but the receptionist told us breakfast wasn't available at this guesthouse. The outside relaxation area and pool were very dirty, and there was no pool cleaner.

It was okay, though not one of the better places in Bloemfontein. There were no amenities in the room, which looked set up for just one person. I've seen better places nearby for the same price or less. I prefer a guesthouse to a lodge anyway.

The receptionist was very rude, and there was no hot water for a shower. The room didn't lock, so I couldn't leave my bags and go.

The food was excellent, and the rooms were spacious and tidy. Big thanks to the cleaning team. It’s a lovely place to unwind, though I missed having a microwave in the room and a charging point beside the bed.

We’d stayed at Shawu Lodge in 2019 and had a good experience, so my partner and I returned this year. This time was a real disappointment. We paid R900, but the aircon didn’t work properly. We tried moving rooms and had the same problem, while the receptionist seemed unsure how to help. In the morning, there was only about half a litre of lukewarm water before the tap turned cold. I ended up heating water in the small kettle just to bathe. It was frustrating and took up a lot of my time.
