2 Friends Guesthouse

I give this place one star, though it deserves none. It suited my needs at the time, but apparently it can afford to turn away R18 k a month. I spent over R50 k, closer to 60k, across three months, from December through March 2021. The bedding was dirty and marked when I arrived. I liked the room I'd chosen, and since that was what I had at the last minute, I cleaned it and stayed. The guesthouse also offers a party venue, which is a nightmare when guests make a huge amount of noise until 4 am. SAPS have been called out repeatedly. The owner seems little interested in the day-to-day running and is never available when there's chaos. One morning, after violence on the property, I called SAPS at 4 am. Violence against women isn't tolerated in this country, as our president would say, and the owner took great exception to my call. Yesterday I tried to book again, thinking I'd give it another chance because the rates have dropped, no surprise there. I was told I could choose any room. When the owner found out I was the white lady, suddenly they were fully booked. I wonder if that was because I'm white, or because I spoke up about the 4 am violence. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere, but what the owner did was unacceptable. You don't have to like someone to do business with them, but respect matters. He showed none. I wonder if my race and gender had something to do with it. This is a review for South African locals. Please support local businesses, because clearly outsiders don't understand how to do business. If nobody speaks up about service delivery, it can't change.
