African Heart Backpackers

It felt disorganized and uncomfortable, almost like we were in a student commune and intruding on other people’s space. The communal toilets and showers were dirty, and the kitchen and its dishes and utensils weren’t clean. I had to wash them again before using them. On the first morning, the bread was mouldy, and I didn’t even want to try the cereal. We never ate breakfast there again. Our room had no fan and was extremely hot, so we slept with the windows open and got attacked by mosquitoes. The advertised BBQ/Braai facilities seemed as if they hadn’t been used for years. When we tried to braai, it started falling apart. Secure parking was advertised, but it was quite far from the property and didn’t feel safe. We encountered two undesirables there. Had we known, we wouldn’t have booked. There was no one at reception when we wanted to check out. It was hard to tell who worked there and who was a guest, which also made it easy for people to come and go. I know this is a backpackers, not luxury accommodation, but for what we paid I expected a bit more cleanliness and professionalism. I wouldn’t recommend it or come back.
