The old Victorian building gives Big Blue Backpackers a lot of character, and the garden and pool were lovely places to unwind. It’s great value, with the V&A Waterfront about a 10-minute walk away and restaurants and bars close by in Green Point. Staff were friendly and helpful with tips and bookings. Hot showers and reliable WiFi, too. A handy base for seeing Cape Town.

The quiet, peaceful location is a real strength, and the woman at reception was very friendly. But the rooms get extremely hot, with no air conditioning, and there are no TVs in them. The male receptionist was rude and swore in front of guests. He also called guests stupid and other names behind their backs while we were sitting in the lounge. When we checked out and waited for our ride, he made us and two other guests, a man and a woman, leave the hotel. He said guests weren’t his problem. It felt completely unprofessional and showed no compassion or regard for guests.

A cosy spot right in town, handy for pretty much anywhere. The staff are accommodating, and there are lots of friendly people from different walks of life to chat with, so it doesn’t get dull. Drinks at the bar are cheap, too. I’d recommend it for a night out, a business trip, or even a week if you want to stay central.

We had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and communicative, and the location is great: a minute from the nearest supermarket and a 10-minute walk to the waterfront and bus station. There were two fans in the room, and the bathrooms had hot water and soap. I’ll definitely come back.
