I bought a Life Spa membership at this hotel because the benefits appealed to me, and mainly because my child likes swimming and there’s a pool. It cost quite a chunk of cash, but I felt it was worth it. On 29 December 2025 at 13:00, I took my daughter to swim while the place was busy with tourists. A man there, a “coloured” guy with a bright smirk, condescendingly told me I couldn’t use the pool because I wasn’t a guest. My wife explained that we were members, but he wouldn’t accept it, so we had to call the hostess to clarify what we’d already said. I told him his behavior was discriminatory and racist, and he laughed it off as a joke. It’s put me off this group, and I’ll soon take memberships somewhere more exclusive. Most of the time the staff don’t seem to know what they’re doing. There are also rusted nails in the pool, making it hazardous. My wife hurt her foot on one, and I had to treat it afterward. All that PT for what? Do better.

The hotel staff were amazing, and we found the rooms comfortable. Some are smaller than others, but the rooms are still astonishing, with some offering huge bathrooms or even bathtubs. The room we stayed in had a comfortable double bed. Live TV was a letdown, with little to watch, but the pool was great for relaxing. South Africa was amazing, and the view was astonishing. I’d recommend this place!

We booked room 712 for our 15th wedding anniversary, but the stay was disgusting. We arrived around 15h00 hoping to relax and watch the Springbok game. Halfway through, at 15h30, someone knocked and said they needed to make the bed. The two chairs were right beside it, so we had to leave the room. When we came back, the centre table still had old cup or glass rings, the shower rack was rusty and hanging loose, and there wasn’t even cold water in the fridge. The WiFi needed constant resetting. The shower was filthy too, and the towels felt like sandpaper. There was just one large, one medium and one small towel, so my wife and I had to share the large one. I can’t rate this experience higher than zero out of five.

The property looks attractive and has good amenities, but poor service and unprofessional staff overshadowed the whole stay. Check-in and checkout were both extremely disappointing, especially as I’m a long-time Marriott Bonvoy member and Ambassador Elite. This didn’t meet the standard I’ve come to expect from Marriott, and I’m unlikely to choose this property again. With the right service, it could have been a wonderful experience.

Right in the lively heart of Cape Town CBD, this beautifully restored old building is within walking distance of lots of trendy spots. The staff were friendly and the service was great.
