We paid premium rates for a place that presents itself as a serviced apartment, but the basics and the front desk were a real letdown. The drainage in some rooms is poor enough to cause water logging, which is uncomfortable and raises hygiene concerns. In the One Bedroom Apartment, there’s no AC in the bedroom, and the AC controller was faulty too. Upgrading to a larger unit made the stay worse, not better, because the layout doesn’t help when the bedroom has no proper cooling. The towel policy was another shock. Booking information didn’t clearly say fresh towels come only once every four days. Sustainability is fine, but it shouldn’t mean guests have to negotiate for clean towels or compromise on basic hygiene. There’s just one bottle of water each day as well, which felt unreasonable for the nightly cost. When we went to reception about housekeeping, the staff seemed uninformed and indifferent. Other guests joined in with their own complaints, so the problems clearly weren’t just ours. Still, there was no urgency or accountability. This was one of our most disappointing stays. If you’re considering Charles Hope Hotel in Cape Town for more than a one night stopover, reconsider. If you have to stay, keep it to one night. Anything longer will test your patience.

Motion made a big impression on me. He welcomed me when I arrived and stayed upbeat, friendly, and smiling throughout, even in the mornings. I hope CharlesHope keeps him around, because I’d love more of our funny, interesting conversations when I come back. I happened to be there during First Thursdays Cape Town, and the city was buzzing. It was really cool to see what Cape Town gets up to on those nights. The location is right in the CBD, so it can be noisy. If you’re a light sleeper or sensitive to noise, it may not suit you, but if you like the energy of city life, it’s a great spot. The place is fairly new and there are a few things to improve: rooms don’t have safes for valuables, towel changes could be more frequent, two bottles of water at check-in would be nice, and the fresh milk in the rooms might be better replaced with something that lasts longer. Apart from those small points, the team has what it takes to impress guests. I loved my stay, from the rooms, food, and drinks to the professional staff. The restaurant crew were fantastic too: Privilege, Brian, Corbin, Clyde, Lucas, Kevin, and the rest of the team. They’d get each morning started with jokes and good energy. Down-to-earth people, great service.

The staff were so welcoming and helpful, and the location couldn’t be more convenient. A special shout out to Noah (the restaurant), along with the waiters and managers. I was a little unsure about booking a city centre hotel over the holidays, but the sound proof windows worked perfectly. My stay was amazing, comfortable, and luxurious.

We spent four nights in Cape Town, but so much of the trip was taken up arguing over the room we’d actually paid for. On Agoda we booked a "Superior Studio with Mountain View." When we arrived at 10 PM, they put us in Room 401, a noisy unit facing a concrete wall of the neighboring building. There was no mountain view, just the wall and a party in the street. The noise sounded like a party inside the room, and we couldn’t sleep for several nights. We spoke to James (reception) right away. He wasn’t helpful, said they were "fully booked," and told us to come back the next day instead of contacting Agoda support. A staff member promised a solution on Day 2. That evening, James said we’d move "tomorrow," so we lived out of our suitcases waiting. On Day 3, he asked why we hadn’t moved and made us pack everything while we were exhausted. Then, after we’d packed, he said we were "too late," should have come during the day, and our room had been given away. This was an absolute disgrace. The staff were disorganized and clearly didn’t care about their guests. We spent our entire vacation fighting for the room we had paid for. This isn’t a hospitality business, it’s a nightmare.

The location may be sold as a premium serviced apartment, but the basics are substandard: poor transparency, maintenance, service, and guest handling. Reception was the worst part for me. The staff seemed clueless, indifferent, and unconcerned. When I raised housekeeping problems, other guests nearby joined in with similar complaints. This didn’t seem isolated, yet the response was apathetic, with no accountability, professionalism, ownership, or urgency. In all my years of travel, I’ve never encountered reception so inefficient and disengaged. Several rooms have serious water logging, with water not draining properly. It’s inconvenient and raises obvious hygiene concerns, a basic infrastructure failure. In the so called top category One Bedroom Apartment, there’s no AC in the bedroom, and the controller is faulty too. The whole point of paying extra for a larger unit is comfort, but the bedroom, where it matters most, has no proper cooling. The larger rooms are poorly designed and inconvenient, and the lack of working climate control makes the stay uncomfortable. Upgrading only adds problems. Fresh towels are provided only once every four days, and nowhere at booking is this disclosed transparently. Four days. Sustainability matters, but it can’t come at the cost of basic hygiene. Guests paying premium rates should get clean towels daily, which is a minimum standard. The cost cutting continues with only one bottle of water per day. For the price, that’s embarrassingly inadequate, more like rationing than hospitality. If you care about comfort, hygiene, or basic hospitality standards, avoid Charles Hope Hotel in Cape Town at all costs. Consider it only if you’re compelled to stay for one single night, and even that is generous. Anything longer is a mistake you’ll regret. Book only if there’s absolutely no alternative, otherwise save yourself the frustration and choose literally anywhere else.
