Apartment 117 was clean, comfortable and in a really convenient location. The photos gave me the impression of wide open sea views, but the view also includes the busy promenade of shops and restaurants below. I was right above a Chinese restaurant, which made it easy to get dinner, though there was less privacy and quite a bit of weekend noise. The balconies are close together, so you can talk to your neighbour without raising your voice. That might suit some people, but it wasn’t ideal for me. For my business trip, though, the apartment worked perfectly. Weekdays were calm, and I could walk to my meetings or head to the beach for a morning run. Cafés, restaurants and even a Pick n Pay were just steps away, so I never needed a car. If you’re after ocean quiet, weekends might not be the best fit. For convenience, coastal air and an easy mix of work and free time, it has its own kind of appeal.

Big Bay is fantastic, and you can’t go wrong there. The beaches are great, and I especially liked the Mozambique restaurant. Have fun!

There’s a huge choice of food and the views out to sea are great, alongside an amazing wide surf beach. It’s a lively tourist spot and can get really busy on weekends, so book ahead if you have a particular place in mind. Parking can be tricky. We like Dimples, a very good chinese option. See my separate review.

I loved the beach and the restaurants, and the atmosphere is great. The water’s cold, but you get used to it after a while. It’s a really nice place to bring the kids and family.

There’s a nice playground for kids, and during the day you can watch colourful kite-surfers right out on the ocean. The views of Table Mountain are stunning, and there are lots of restaurants to choose from. It can get windy, so check the weather before booking a table. Weekdays aren’t too busy, but weekends can get hectic.
