Strand Pavilion

The rooms have some potential and are nice enough, especially if you book a larger one for more space, but the place feels unfinished and overdue for an upgrade. The fridges barely keep food and drinks cold, and the stove and other appliances are old. The pool is only knee-deep for adults, more like a splash fountain, and the gym is very basic, with a spin bike, rower, and a few weights. For a resort under Dream vacations, the amenities feel limited for the price. The rules make it hard to enjoy yourself. Quiet hours are strict, and even music from your phone isn't allowed. After 11pm, a night manager watches people return quietly and says they can't walk back to their own room, even though they've paid for it. There's more to do outside than inside, so the resort can't take credit for that. Its best feature is the location, especially if you get a good sea-view room. Most receptionists were friendly and helpful, though not all. The cleaning staff were lovely, but cleaning didn't match other Dream vacations resorts. Countertops weren't wiped and floors weren't swept or vacuumed regularly, apparently only when guests checked in or out. I won't be back.

The ocean views were amazing, and the place was incredibly beautiful and peaceful. The staff really went out of their way for us. It doesn't have a bar, a warm swimming pool, or buffet breakfast, but I still loved our relaxing stay.

The quiet, relaxing feel made for a lovely stay, and Rubayda was consistently helpful and hospitable. The resort works to keep everything neat, and you can request a hair dryer or clothes dryer. The unit's views are spectacular. Its position also makes it easy to reach Gordon’s Bay, Somerset West, Stellenbosch, and Paarl. Everything nearby is lively, with morning walks, a beach atmosphere, and lots of places to eat. BOSSA is in the same building, along with Steers and Ekhaya coffee. Checkers is just across the road, and supermarkets, restaurants, and branded coffee shops are all walkable. From the unit, it feels as if you're right over the ocean, with mountain and sea views and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. A few things could be improved. The appliances need updating, an air fryer could be added, and the stoves could be gas hobs. The units could be vacuumed every second day or on request. The mattresses should be rotated so one side isn't the only firm one. Paper towels need to be replenished on time, and bedding should be changed at least once during a one-week stay. External contractors should be managed better too. In the car park, their noise and rowdiness included one person in boxers who had taken a dip in the sea and was getting into a trailer van. That was a bit vulgar and not acceptable.

The staff and manager provided excellent customer service and sorted out the issues we ran into during our stay. The location and amenities were great. It would be helpful to reduce the inconvenience for smokers and to cover and heat the swimming pool.
