Our stay at Sunbell Lodge was a real letdown. The room had cockroaches, which made us very uncomfortable, especially with the children there. When we raised it with the host, Retha, she said the place had “just been fumigated.” That left us worried that this was an ongoing problem that hadn't been sorted out. There was no kettle, tea or coffee station, or other basic guesthouse amenities in the room. The kitchen utensils and dishes were locked away. I asked for a bowl to make porridge for my children, but was told guests couldn't have bowls because people steal them. I find that completely unacceptable for a guesthouse. The extension cord was so short that we couldn't plug the room's fridge in properly. Retha said she already knew about the issue, but it still hadn't been fixed. The property also didn't look like the advertised photos to me. They were misleading and didn't show the actual condition or experience. In my opinion, this doesn't meet any reasonable standard for a guesthouse. Be very careful when booking, because what you see online isn't what you get.

A woman who seemed to be wild claimed she paid rent at this establishment. She mistook us for the owners and assaulted us, spitting and hitting us, and breaking my mom's glasses. We tried calling the place several times, but nobody answered. That's why I gave both the location and service one star. Based on the other reviews, I'd advise closing down 🤗

This was my second stay, and the staff went out of their way to set up a BBQ for my wife and me. The breakfast was especially amazing, as always. On my first overnight visit, I found the place beautiful and conveniently close to anything we needed. The room was spacious and clean, with a comfortable bed and setup, and there was a nice outdoor area to relax in. Worth it 👌 ✨️

The staff were very kind, but the Wi-Fi signal was weak in the rooms outside the main building. They only replace towels, soap, and toilet paper or clean the room when asked. That can get tedious, so you might want to ask at the start of your stay for them to do it regularly.

René showed us how to braai from scratch, and the staff were patient and warm. We felt at home and would highly recommend staying here. Thanks to everyone, we'll be back.
